Our Mission
We started THequine because we found there was a significant gap in accessible and comprehensive horse management and welfare information. Having been invited to give a course on the subject, Isabel, realized that her own journey of becoming a horse vet, despite not growing up around horses, presented unique challenges. She had to not only grasp the fundamentals of equine care but also familiarize herself with the specific vocabulary and nuances of the industry. The struggle to find resources tailored to her learning needs inspired the creation of THequine.
The initial presential course she gave affirmed that there was a widespread need for accessible and user-friendly resources in the equine world and she set out to find a solution for this problem. The aha! moment was realizing that the demand for accessible and reliable information was not limited to a specific audience, but it also affected the different levels of expertise. So, she invited Stephan to design the project with her, and what was once a humble idea born out of a personal challenge developed into a dynamic platform that caters to fulfil the diverse needs of horse enthusiasts. THequine was born.
It is our goal that this platform becomes a hub where beginners and seasoned professionals alike can find valuable insights, tools, and guidance to enhance their understanding and practice of equine care. And it is our commitment to deliver quality content and user-friendly resources to a growing community about all things equine related.
Our values are rooted in a deep respect for horses, a commitment to education, and the belief that everyone, regardless of their background, should have access to reliable and empowering information about equine care.
About Us
My name is Isabel, I’m an equine veterinarian, whose passion for horses started in a somewhat unconventional manner. Unlike many in my field, I didn't grow up around horses or have any previous experience with these animals. Believe it or not, I was afraid of horses! And as I was trying to overcome this fear I became fascinated by them and I decided that this was the field I wanted to pursue.
But my journey wasn’t easy, it took a lot of work, determination to learn and of course the help of people that were willing to spend their time and teach me. As student in veterinary medicine I did horse care externships and eventually embarked on the world of equine reproduction. Through training and education, I learned not only the theoretical aspects but also gained practical experience through internships and mentorships with seasoned equine veterinarians. It was a challenging but rewarding journey as it allowed me to work with these animals.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of helping numerous horse owners navigate the intricacies of equine reproduction, some of them less experienced than others. This, allied to my personal path led me to recognise the importance of sharing knowledge and I was invited to give a course on equine management and well-being, and I loved it! And so, slowly, this project grew as a way of helping horse owners better understand and care for their equine companions.
I'm Stephan, and my journey into the world of equine care has been nothing short of a wild ride. Raised on an equine breeding farm, horses have been an integral part of my life from the very beginning. Growing up with the stables as my childhood playground, as many others before me, I developed the well-known by many of us, obsession for horses.
As a teenager, my passion for horses evolved and I slowly entered the world of professional riding, participating in various competitions and events. For that reason I pursued the path of agricultural and equine sciences and sought out mentorship from seasoned riders and trainers. Under their guidance, I not only enriched my riding abilities but also gained a profound respect for the intricate dynamics between horses and humans.
However, as the years went by, I wanted to learn more and to contribute to the well-being of these animals in a different capacity. Driven by a desire to deepen my understanding of equine health and provide comprehensive care, I made the decision to transition from professional riding to veterinary medicine.
Embarking on this new chapter meant pursuing rigorous education and training. I immersed myself in veterinary studies, blending my previous hands-on experience with the scientific knowledge required to become an equine veterinarian.
When Isabel invited me to be a part of this project I was immediately excited as I understand the work and sacrifice that the equine industry involves and how the lack of knowledge can make the process so much harder. It is my hope that this project can help many others join or dive deeper into this world that I love so much.
